What happens when you call
- You tell us where you are and what kind of door and lock you’re looking at. A photo helps if you can send one.
- We give you the price before we leave.
- We check your ID and that you live there, open the door, and make sure the lock still works properly before we go.
How we get you in
Most house lockouts are opened by picking or bypassing the lock, and the lock is fine afterwards. That’s always the first thing we try. Deadbolts, knob sets, lever handles, and the screen door in front of them all respond to the right tools.
Some locks won’t give. High-security cylinders, badly worn locks and some deadlocks have to be drilled to get in. When that’s the case we say so before we touch it, and we carry new locks in the van so we can fit a replacement straight away, on the same visit. You end up with a working lock and a new set of keys, not a hole in the door.
While you wait
- Stay somewhere well lit, or with a neighbour. Late at night, wait in the car if you have it.
- Don’t climb through windows or force the screen door. That’s how doors and frames get damaged, and how people get hurt.
- Have your ID ready. We’ll ask for it, every time, and you’d want us to.
Renting, or in a unit?
We open rentals and strata units too. You’ll need ID and something that shows you live there, such as a lease, a bill or mail with your name and the address. If your keys are lost rather than just inside, your property manager may want the locks rekeyed. We can do that on the same visit: see rekeying.
Once you’re in
If the keys are inside, you’re done. If they’re lost, or you think they were taken, it’s worth rekeying the door locks while we’re there so the old keys stop working. Common questions
Will you damage my door or lock?
We open the lock without damage whenever it can be done, and that’s most of the time. If a lock has to be drilled, we tell you first and replace it on the spot, so you’re left with a working lock and new keys.
Do I need to prove I live there?
Yes. We’ll ask for photo ID and something with your name and the address, like a lease, a bill or mail. It protects you as much as anyone.
I’ve lost my house keys. Should I change the locks?
If you don’t know where they are, yes. Rekeying is usually enough: same locks, new keys, and the old keys stop working. We can do it on the same visit.
Can you open a security screen door?
Yes. Screen doors with triple locks and older single locks are part of most house lockouts, and we open them the same way, without damage where possible.
I’m renting. Can you still let me in?
Yes, with ID and proof you live there. If the locks need rekeying afterwards, check with your property manager first, as they usually want to hold a key.
