What decides the cost of a house lockout in Perth?

Quick answer: the price of a house lockout depends on the time of day, the type of lock, and whether it can be opened without damage. We tell you the total on the phone before we leave, including any after-hours charge, and that’s the price you pay unless the door turns out to be something different from what we were told.

Price guide

Business hours, GST included, checked September 2026. A guide, not a quote.

  • House lockout: from $195
  • Rekeying: $195 for the first lock, then $55 for each extra lock, with 2 keys included. A typical 6-lock house comes to $470.

After-hours and weekend jobs cost more. Either way, we tell you the total before we start.

The guide above is where the common jobs start, not a fixed price for every door, because a lockout at 2pm on a Tuesday with a standard front door lock and a lockout at 2am on a public holiday with a high-security deadbolt are different jobs. Here’s exactly what moves the number, so a quote makes sense when you hear it.

1. The time of day

Daytime on a weekday is the cheapest. Evenings, weekends and public holidays cost more, and the middle of the night costs the most. Every locksmith works this way; the difference is whether they tell you the after-hours amount up front. Ask for the total before they leave.

2. The lock on the door

Most Perth front doors have a standard knob set or a deadbolt on a Lockwood or Gainsborough profile. Those open without damage the vast majority of the time. High-security cylinders, some older deadlocks and locks that are already damaged take longer and sometimes can’t be picked, which brings us to the next point.

3. Whether anything has to be drilled

We open the lock without damage wherever we can, and that’s most of the time. In the unlikely event a barrel has to be drilled to get you in, we tell you before we do it, then replace the barrel and key it to your existing key at no charge. So a drilled lock doesn’t add a surprise to your bill with us. With some operators it does, so ask.

4. Screen doors and second doors

If there’s a locked security screen in front of the door, that’s a second lock to open. Triple locks and seized coastal screen locks take more time. See security screen door locks.

What’s included

Getting you in, checking the lock still works properly afterwards, and the ID check. If your keys are lost rather than inside, rekeying the locks so the lost set stops working is a separate job we can do on the same visit, and it’s cheaper on the same visit than as a second call-out. Read should I rekey or change the locks?

How to get a firm price

Call 0427 580 823 and tell us the suburb, what kind of door and lock it is (a photo helps if you can take one), whether there’s a screen door, and whether you have ID. That’s enough for a total on the phone.

Common questions

Why is the price guide a “from” price and not a fixed price?

Because the “from” figure is the daytime price for the simplest version of the job. The time of day, the type of lock and whether there’s a screen door all move the number, so we tell you the price for your actual door on the phone and agree the total with you before we start.

Is it cheaper to break a window?

No. A glazier, a house open until morning, and possibly an insurance excess. Call a locksmith.

Will my insurance pay for the locksmith?

Sometimes, if the lockout follows a theft or a break-in. Check your policy. We give you a proper invoice either way.

Do you charge extra if it takes longer?

No. The price we give on the phone is the price, as long as the door is what we were told.
