Quick answer: To leave a Google review, open the business in Google Maps or Google Search, tap Reviews, choose your stars, write what happened and post it. You need to be signed in to a Google account. A review link from the business opens the review box straight away.

Plenty of people read reviews before they call a locksmith. Fewer leave one afterwards, often because they’re not sure how. This guide covers the steps on a phone, on a computer and from a link. It takes about a minute.

How do I leave a Google review on my phone?

  1. Open the Google Maps app and sign in to your Google account if asked.
  2. Search the business name and tap it in the results.
  3. Tap Reviews at the top, then tap the empty stars.
  4. Choose your stars and write what happened.
  5. Add a photo if you like, then post it.

How do I leave a Google review on a computer?

  1. Search the business name on Google.
  2. Click the business name to open its Google listing. On most screens it shows on the right of the results.
  3. Click Write a review. Sign in if Google asks.
  4. Choose your stars, type your review and post it.

What if the business sent me a review link?

Tap or click it. It opens the review box for that business, so there’s nothing to search for. If you’re not signed in, Google asks you to sign in first. After the job, we text customers our link. Here it is if you’d like it:

Leave us a Google review

We never offer anything for a review and we never tell you what to write. Honest feedback, good or bad, helps.

Why do reviews matter to a small local business?

For a one-van business, reviews do the job a shop front would. Someone locked out at night can’t drop in and meet us. They read what other locals said and decide from that. Google also shows the business’s replies, so people can see how we deal with things. We reply to every new review.

How do I read a locksmith’s reviews before I call?

  • Sort by newest. Recent reviews tell you how the business works now, not years ago.
  • Read the owner’s replies. A calm, specific reply to a bad review says a lot.
  • Look for detail. Reviews that name the job and the suburb are easier to trust. A lot of short, vague reviews posted within a few days of each other is worth a second look.

More warning signs, and the questions to ask on the phone, are in our guide on how to tell a legit locksmith.

Common questions

Do I need a Google account to leave a review?

Yes. Any Google account works. If you don’t have one, you can make one for free with any email address, not just Gmail.

Can I leave a review without my name showing?

No. Every review shows a name and a picture. By default it’s the name on your Google account, but Google Maps lets some people set a different display name for reviews in their Maps profile. Google says this isn’t offered to everyone yet.

Can I change or delete my review later?

Yes. In Google Maps, open your profile, find your reviews, tap the menu next to the review and choose to edit or delete it. Google shows when a review was last edited.

Why can’t I see the review I just left?

Google checks every review against its rules, and that can take a few days. Google can also remove a review under those rules. If you use an old version of the Maps app, update it and try again. The business can’t choose which reviews show.
